Hi, I have a somewhat unusual "gaming art history" question: what is up with the depiction of meat in early videogames? There's this particular image of meat that shows up in at least 9 videogames I know of, including:

The Legend of Zelda

Metal Slug

Final Fight 2

Pooyan

Here's a quick sketch of it:

Does anyone know where this image might have originated? I am dying to find some kind of answer or reason why this image has become so common. Feel free to repost this if you're curious too. Thanks!

cultural preparation, maybe?

not that this has any real relevance, but that meat form was also in digimon world.

hahaha. that's so weird, but it seems to be the standard japanese ani-meat.
